Western Buddhist University

Western Buddhist University grew out of the Tenzin Yangchen Centre for Contemplative Dialogue & Monastic Studies, and is now a non-profit, distance learning institution, run under the auspices of the Contemplative Order of Compassion – a non-sectarian, intentional spiritual community, rooted in the rich tradition of Buddhist Dharma, interpreted through an inclusive, non-religious, culturally relevant, post-denominational and post-modern lens.

Western Buddhist University offers a unique academic education, with undergraduate and graduate programs, leading to Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) degrees in

Buddhist Studies. Western Buddhist University also offers a four-year undergraduate college and graduate programs in the arts, education, community leadership, pastoral counseling, psychology and religious studies. It offers BA, MA, and MDiv degrees, as well as professional development training and classes for the community.

No students are every turned away due to inability to afford tuition, and all tuition monies are spent on software, materials and operating costs of the university. No teachers, staff or administrators have ever been compensated in any way.
