Since
1984, more than 1.1 million meals have been provided for homeless and
poor persons, living on the streets of Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix,
Colombia, Orlando and Miami, by members of the Community through the
Street Meals Project.
In some areas, such as Atlanta, the Street Meals Project
was taken over by yoga centres and community service volunteers, in
order to keep up with the growing demand.
Khenpo's guru taught, "There are no throw-away people,"
and it is with this in mind that we continue to do all we can to extend
the Street Meals Project wherever it is needed.
If you'd like to start a Street Meals program in your
area, we can help point you in the right direction, and teach you everything
we've learned about successfully developing the project, training volunteers
and delivering the meals to those in need.
Future plans for the Street Meals Project includes establishing
a food pantry and building a restaurant and soup kitchen, focused on
providing affordable meals to those struggling financially, and (in
the soup kitchen) provide meals for the homeless, sick and poor.
